TRIBUTE TO William Wallace (Bill) Blight - 93 Years

The Albert County Historical Society is deeply saddened by the passing of former ACHS Director,  Bill Blight, and extends heartfelt condolences to the Blight family.

The Historical Society and Museum were extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated and hardworking volunteer as Bill, who served as Board Director and Chair of the Building and Maintenance Committee for many years.

It is due to the devoted commitment by volunteers such as Bill, that the foundation of the Albert County Historical Society has continued to remain strong in its work of preserving and sharing the proud heritage of Albert County. Bill often spoke of the “workshop” in the Exhibition Building, where he and fellow Directors, John and Pierce, would spend good times together, working on projects and doing needed repairs at the Museum. The Quilt Show Committee still appreciates the efficient “pole and hanger system” creatively designed in the “workshop”. The commitment that Bill held for the work of the Society and Museum was always evident!

Bill will be dearly missed, but he leaves a remarkable legacy of a life “well lived”, to be remembered and shared through treasured memories by his family and friends.

 With heartfelt sympathy,

Dawne McLean, President

The Albert County Historical Society, Board of Directors

Bill Blight

From Published Obituary:

William Wallace Blight passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024 at the Moncton Hospital, at the age of 93.  Born in Hillsborough NB he was the son of the late Barry and Kathryn (Thompson) Blight. He was also predeceased by his wife Jessie Blight, his brother Barry (Kim) Blight and his sister Carol (Frank) Wilson.

Bill grew up in Hillsborough and there met and married the love of his life Jessie Lockhart.  In 1957, he and Jessie, and their growing family, moved to Riverview where he lived for 63 years.

Bill started his career as a journeyman machinist at the CN Shops in Moncton.  In 1961 he accepted a job at NB Wire & Eastern Fence and remained there, retiring as Vice President after 35 years of service.

Bill was an avid sailor and vintage motorcyclist enthusiast, to name just two of his many hobbies, all of which gave him countless hours of challenge and fulfilment. But his greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends at the cottage in South Cove.  There the family gathered every week, giving he and Jessie countless days of fun, laughter, and quality time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his five boys, James (late Mary), Bill (Claire), Peter (Joanne), Barry (Simone), and Ralph (Heather).  He was a loving Grandfather to Christopher (Natalie), Kate (Melanie), Gail (Jay), Krista (Jared), Barry (Rebecca), Becky (Rob), Peter (Camilla), Thomas, Emily, Lexi, and Drew.  He was a devoted Great-Grandfather to Ben, Alexander, Charlie, Maggie, Ava, Hendrix, Ryann, Nicholas, Sophie, James and Rhea.  He is also survived by his brother Leslie (Margie) Blight, his brother-in-law Frank (late Carol) Wilson and his many nieces and nephews.

Bill was a man of very few words but always left you with a lasting impression.  He will forever hold a special place in our hearts and will truly be missed by all.
