The Hopewell Cape Community Hall was built in approximately 1870. The exact date is unknown, however a plate found in the wall dates from that period, so we have determined that the hall is most likely the age of the plate, an item which is now on display in the Gaol (jail). Most of the interior is still original, including the stage, and offers excellent acoustics for meetings and live music.
An interesting point is that the hall was built as a purpose built community hall to meet the needs of the growing and prosperous community of that time, and it is still used to this day for community and museum events. Most community halls today are refurbished churches or other buildings. An annex building was added in 2010, now offering washroom facilities and a full “class 5” commercial kitchen for catering and food preparation, making it ideal for special events for up to 100 people.
