Lest We Forget - George Bishop Peck - Killed in Action 100 Years Ago Today 10.30.1917
George Bishop Peck, 283085 was from Hillsborough, Albert County, New Brunswick and was born February 26, 1896. He was the Son of John L. and Minnie F. Peck, of Hillsborough, Albert County, New Brunswick.. He enlisted with the 219 Battalion on March 3, 1916. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field on September 9, 1917. He was listed as Killed in Action at while fighting with the 85th Battalion on October 30, 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the MENIN GATE (YPRES) MEMORIAL , Belgium.

85th Battalion history records, at page 36, say that "Private Peck, one of the company runners, was continuously on duty for three days and nights. His great value to the Battalion was because of his accuracy and quickness in acquiring knowledge of the grounds, and carrying with unerring safety, important messages under difficult and most trying curcumstances..."
